Texas State Core Curriculum
All students seeking their first baccalaureate degree from UT Tyler are required to
satisfy all requirements of the Texas Core Curriculum. The Core Curriculum objectives
serve as the UT Tyler student learning outcomes for collegiate-level general education
competencies of all undergraduate degree programs.
The Core Curriculum is defined in the Texas Education Code of the Texas Constitution
as "the curriculum in liberal arts, humanities, and sciences and political, social,
and cultural history that all undergraduate students of an institution of higher education
are required to complete before receiving an academic undergraduate degree."
Completion of an Associate's degree, even from a Texas public institution, does not necessarily guarantee completion of the core curriculum. Core Curriculum completion must be noted as a stand-alone item on the official transcript
from a Texas public institution to be considered.
General education requirements completed at private or out-of-state institutions are
not the equivalent of, and may not excuse a student from completing, the Core Curriculum.
Each course completed toward general education requirements will be assessed to determine
if it meets requirements within UT Tyler's Core Curriculum, and transferred accordingly.
This remains true even if an Associate's degree has been conferred.
Core Curriculum Transient Enrollment for UT Tyler Students
Students wishing to complete coursework toward the Core Curriculum at another institution
while enrolled as a degree-seeking student at UT Tyler, known as transient or concurrent
enrollment, must file an Undergraduate Transient Form. Failure to complete the document prior to enrolling in courses elsewhere may result
in credits being ineligible for transfer back to UT Tyler.
