Susan Doty has been elected to lead the National Association of Economic Educators in a three-year appointment, Dr. Martin Slann, The University of Texas at Tyler College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.

She will serve in its executive leadership, first as president-elect, then president, then past-president. NAEE is a professional association with the mission to advance economic education and financial literacy.

Serving UT Tyler since 2009, Doty is a senior lecturer in economics within the Department of Social Sciences.

"It is an honor to be recognized by my peers, and I look forward to working with an amazing group of educators who are committed to economic and financial literacy," Doty said.

She has had the privilege of serving on the NAEE executive committee since 2012 and the boards of both the Council for Economic Education in New York and the Texas Council on Economic Education since 2015. Her focus has been on representing university centers nationwide, mentoring new university center directors, strategic planning and being the liaison between the organizations.

A 2015 UT System Board of Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award recipient and a 2016 UT Tyler Student Life and Leadership Partnership Award recipient, Doty also directs the UT Tyler Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy. As center director, she is instrumental in providing educational training for area teachers, thereby enhancing the K-12 curriculum with economic education and personal finance literacy.

In addition, Doty is a founding fellow of UT Tyler's Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and she is currently its president-elect. Her professional interests are in instructional design, especially the use of technology in the classroom, and economic and financial literacy in P-20 education. She holds a master of business administration in business from Bryant University.
