The University of Texas at Tyler has named its newest housing facility, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.

Eagle’s Landing will offer a unique campus living option for university upperclassmen. UT Tyler held a naming contest opened to all students, faculty and staff. The university received more than 200 entries.

“We were thrilled to receive so many entries in this naming contest. It shows the students’ excitement about this new property,” Patterson said. “Eagle’s Landing provides another outstanding option for resident students, and we hope it will attract more students to live on campus and become further engaged in UT Tyler events, clubs, organizations and activities.

“All studies show that students who live on campus are more likely to engage in campus activities are more likely to persist and graduate than those who live off campus,” he added.

UT Tyler Eagle’s Landing features a gated entrance, fitness center, game room, sand volleyball court, clubhouse and outdoor pool area. The additional housing brings the total of on-campus beds to more than 1,400.

“These apartments are ideally located to provide our students with convenient access to campus. More importantly, they provide the university with ability to grow and greatly expand our on campus housing in a first-class manner,” Patterson added.

The facility is currently accepting UT Tyler students for move-in. Tours are available 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday.

“We have already met with several students who are interested in making Eagle’s Landing their home, and we look forward to working with them,” said Toby Wilkerson, UT Tyler Eagle’s Landing conduct and marketing coordinator.

The university plans to honor all current leases as it finalizes housing policies designed specifically for Eagle’s Landing.

The appraisal was submitted last December, and the UT System Board of Regents approved pursuing the purchase in February. UT Tyler President Rodney Mabry gave the final approval for UT Tyler to take complete ownership on April 25, with a final purchase price of $20.3 million.
