UT Tyler Honors Program
Applying as an Incoming Freshman
The University of Texas at Tyler Honors Program seeks highly motivated and academically talented high school seniors to apply to the program.
Candidates who wish to apply to the Honors Program for the fall of 2015 will need to complete an application. The application consists of biographical and academic information and includes an essay. Applicants may be invited for an interview with the Honors Committee. Interviews are either conducted in person or through a remote medium. Please note that you will only be able to sign up for an interview after your completed application has been received. More information on the interview process can be found below.
The Honors Committee will review all completed applications. A candidate's application is evaluated holistically and is not based on any single metric.
The deadline for applications is March 13, 2015.
Applicants who are invited to interview with the Honors Program will have the opportunity to interview on campus or via a remote medium. There is no substantive difference between an on-campus interview or a remote-medium interview. All interviews are conducted by the Honors staff and will cover the same content. Interviews typically take between 30 - 45 minutes.
When a student receives an invitation to interview, they will be given the option of either interviewing on campus or via a remote medium. For more details about each process, please read below.
On Campus Interviews
On campus interviews are conducted through the fall and spring semester on 'interview weekends' (Friday - Saturday). All interviews are conducted in our offices located in the Library, room 425. If you cannot attend any of the on-campus interview days listed below, you may sign up for a remote-medium interview.

For the November and February interview weekends, slots are available on Fridays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - noon.
For the December interview days, slots are available from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
For the March interview weekends, slots are available on Fridays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
All remote medium interviews are conducted through video conferencing services. Typically, this occurs via Skype or FaceTime during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM). Interview times are available throughout the semester and are scheduled in conjunction with the Honors staff via email.
We strongly prefer remote-medium interviews that include video. Accordingly, please make sure you have a reliable internet connection and are in a quiet setting for the interview. In rare circumstances we will use phone or audio only interviews.
