UT Tyler GATE
International Travel - Japan
Japan is situated in northeastern Asia between the North Pacific and the Sea of Japan. The area of Japan, slightly smaller than California, consists of four major islands surrounded by more than 4,000 smaller islands. Japan offers a wealth and diversity of experiences, from the urban environment of bustling Tokyo to Hiroshima Peace Park and the breathtaking Byodoin Temple near Kyoto.
Here are just a few of the sites that we plan to explore while in Japan:
- Tokyo National Museum
- Hiroshima Peace Park and Museum
- Himeji Castle in Hyogo prefecture
- Mount Fuji
- Byodo In Temple
- Ryoanji Rock Garden
GATE students beginning coursework in the fall 2011 will travel to Japan for an extraordinary five-week study abroad experience the summer after their sophomore year (2013). GATE students will complete two core curriculum courses (6 hours) taught by UT Tyler faculty at a university in Japan, and will also explore the culture and beauty that Japan has to offer. Housing and travel will be arranged, and UT Tyler administrators will be onsite to coordinate events, activities, and travel around Japan for the GATE students.
