Job Title: Assistant Professor - Houston Engineering Center
Department: Mechanical Engineering

Status: Active

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level at its Houston Engineering Center in Houston, Texas, beginning in August 2015.  The candidate’s primary area of responsibility will be Machine Design and Dynamic Systems and Controls.  Research expertise in process/system modeling and control or biomechanics is desirable.

Successful applicants will collaborate with existing faculty members, teach classes to support the undergraduate and graduate programs, develop new courses, advise undergraduate and graduate students, participate in university and professional activities including traveling 2-3 times a year to the main campus in Tyler, and pursue significant external funding to support research.

An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with good communication skills, commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and a demonstrated ability to develop a strong externally funded research program are required.  Industrial experience is desirable.

An earned doctorate in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, demonstrated English communication skills, and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching are required. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, or a closely related field; excellent communication and leadership skills; and a record of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, scholarship, and service. A demonstrated ability to develop a strong externally funded research program preferably in biomedical, energy or manufacturing areas. The candidate’s record of teaching, scholarship, and research should warrant appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. Responsibilities of the chair include administrating the department and leading the growth of its programs; recruiting and retaining high-quality faculty and students; developing, maintaining, and promoting an environment of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research; maintaining ABET accreditation; establishment of collaborative relationships with business, industry, and government organizations; and development of significant external funding.

Job Title: Lecturer

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the level of Lecturer starting January 2015, in the University of Texas at Tyler’s Houston Engineering Center (HEC), located in Houston, Texas.  We are interested in applicants with background in general practice of civil engineering, those with industry or consulting experience are preferred; however, all civil engineering degree holders will be considered. Applications from women and under-represented minority groups are strongly encouraged.  The successful applicant is expected to teach courses at the undergraduate level in the UT Tyler Civil Engineering completion curriculum, leading to a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering.  A successful applicant will also be expected to advise students and assist in the building of the UT Tyler CE program in Houston, and to actively engage in and contribute to internal and external professional service.  Basic Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned Master’s degree (Science or Engineering) in civil engineering or in one of the closely related focus fields (sub-disciplines) of civil engineering. Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.  Interests in structures and solid mechanics preferred. Those with a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply and doctoral candidates will be considered.
