How do I get started in "STEP"?

Note: Any Texas resident with a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university is eligible for this program.  Clinical experiences in a Texas Education Agency (TEA) approved school are required throughout the fall and spring semesters.

      1. Request a deficiency plan. The deficiency plan tells you what courses you need to take to earn your teacher certificate.

To request a deficiency plan through the mail, complete a deficiency plan request form and send it to Ms. Virginia Fender along with a complete set of official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.  The minimum cumulative GPA for admission into the STEP program is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.  After you receive your plan, it is recommended that you meet with your advisor prior to starting the program. To make an appointment with Ms. Fender for a deficiency plan or an advising meeting, contact her assistant, Ms. Cynthia Harris, mailto:charris@uttyler.edu or 903 566 7053.
