Top 7 Reasons for Living in Campus Housing

1.       Convenience

Living on campus alleviates hassles, saves time, and avoids costly commuting expenses. You
don’t need to constantly fill up the car with gas. Hungry? There are multiple dining options.
Need to study? The library is right there, as are a variety of quiet areas. Want to work out? Walk
to the Fitness Center.

2.       Affordability

Campus housing includes free internet, furniture, all utilities, cable TV, quiet study rooms, and an
abundance of free activities. All residential communities are air-conditioned. There is no housing
deposit. You can save money by not purchasing gas or paying vehicle repair bills!

3.       Staff and Resource Availability

Students who live on campus have support available 24/7. There are RAs living in every
community, and a full-time Residence Coordinator maintains office hours and lives in each
residential community. Housing & Residence Life staff members are on duty & available 24 hours
per day, 365 days a year. You can always receive assistance… even during the evenings,
weekends, and holidays.

4.       Engagement

Living on campus is fun! Campus housing allows students an easy & convenient opportunity to
meet other students while participating in fun events, campus activities, student organizations,
and socializing. Enjoy the total campus experience & enhance your academic success too!

5.       Safety and Security

The University Police work collaboratively with Housing & Residence Life, including with
educational programming, policy enforcement, and student care. In a recent student satisfaction
survey, 98% of the survey participants reported feeling safe in campus housing.

6.       Academic Success

National research reflects that students who live on campus tend to have higher GPAs. There are
quiet study environments in every community and easy access to the library. You enjoy easy
access to faculty & study groups.

7.       Friendships

It is easier to make friends! When the people in your classes are also the folks you eat with, do
laundry with, and binge TV with, you start to build life-long friendships!

Housing at UT Tyler

UT Tyler designs our housing communities to give you a sense of independence, support and ease as you earn your degree. The majority of the more than 1,700 students who live on campus do so in apartment or townhouse-style residential communities equipped with private bathrooms and in-unit kitchens. We locate our residence halls and apartment communities close to classes, the library, the University Center and other facilities.

UT Tyler requires all students who have completed fewer than 60 credit hours at any junior college or university, including UT Tyler, to live on campus if facilities are available. For an exception, submit a waiver through the Housing Portal.
