Order of Omega
The Order of Omega was founded at the University of Miami (Ohio) in the fall of 1959 by fraternity members who felt that their Greek brothers and sisters should be recognized for their services.
Today, the Order of Omega serves over 500 campuses as a national honor society for Greek students who exemplify high standards in scholarship, leadership, and involvement within the Greek and local community.
The Phi Gamma Chapter was founded on June 25, 2007, to recognize the outstanding Greek leaders at The University of Texas at Tyler and to enhance the fraternity and sorority community on campus.
Purpose
The purpose of the Phi Gamma chapter of Order of Omega shall be threefold:
-
To recognize those students who have attained a high standard of leadership in fraternity and sorority activities, to encourage them to continue along this line and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.
-
To bring together the most representative fraternity and sorority members, and to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate affairs.
-
To bring together members of the faculty, alumni and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness.
How to Join
Each semester, applications are made available to those students who meet the standards of the Order of Omega and those students are encouraged to apply. Interested current fraternity and sorority members can contact Robert Smith, Coordinator of Greek Affairs and Order of Omega Advisor for more information.
Academic Honor Lists
The Order of Omega also honors individuals who excel academically each semester by publishing the Distinction List, for those who earned between a 3.50 and 4.00 for the semester and the High Honors List for those who earned between 3.00 and 3.49 for the semester. The lists are updated each semester.
