Admission Requirements for Transfer Students

Transfer students with fewer than 30 semester credit college hours must apply as an incoming freshman. Eligibility for admission is determined primarily on the basis of high school preparation, an SAT or ACT score, and a TOEFL score for international candidates. Official SAT or ACT and TOEFL reports are required.

Review All Application Requirements for Incoming First-Year Students

Transfer students having successfully completed 30 semester credit college hours or more at a regionally accredited institution must have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on all college or university work.

Additional application requirements include:

  • A grade point average of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all college-level coursework taken to date.
  • Official transcripts from each college or university attended.
  • A completed application for admission with a nonrefundable fee of $60.

Official transcripts can be sent electronically from all previously attended colleges and universities to processing@uttyler.edu, mailed to the address below or hand-delivered to the One-Stop Service Center.

As a transfer student, you have the opportunity to enter the Honors College through a two- or three-year commitment that involves more intensive major-specific coursework and the opportunity to pursue individual research.

In order to apply to the Honors College, transfer applicants must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher from their previous institution.
  • Have at least two full years of degree coursework remaining (excluding summer semesters).

Transferring Credits to UT Tyler

You worked hard to get here. We want to honor that. A wide variety of partnerships, state programs and other policies ensure your credits count toward a four-year degree.

This state program automatically qualifies you for an associate degree if you have completed the Texas Core Curriculum and courses in a specific field of study at any public two-year institution. These courses can be applied directly to your major at a four-year institution.

Complete 60 semester credit hours of lower-division subjects to earn an associate degree before transferring as a junior to UT Tyler. We then evaluate your coursework to apply as many courses as possible toward your degree.

Earn a four-year bachelor’s degree in a flexible, 100% online format. Apply after completing 60 semester hours of transferable credits or an AA, AS or AAT degree. Then, choose from five thematic concentrations to specialize and finish your degree.
